What is a selenium toned gelatin silver print?
A gelatin silver print is the fancy way of saying a photograph made on traditional materials in a darkroom. Real, chemical photo paper has a gelatin emulsion with light-sensitive silver compound coated on the paper base. The silver turns black when exposed to light and developed in the proper chemical. This is what makes the black and white image. My prints are toned in selenium to change the tone of the blacks on the paper. Selenium toner also binds with the silver to form a molecule that is more stable and resistant to decay than the un-toned silver molecule.
I guess what this means is that you get a really beautiful piece of artwork that will last for over a hundred years.
What is a digital print?
That’s a great question! In my world, a digital print is a print made with an Epson R2400 printer using the UltraChrome K3 pigment inks that Epson is so proud of. According to accelerated UV testing, these inks will last about as long as the traditional selenium toned silver print.
What is an edition?
An edition is a limited run of a particular piece of artwork. Photographers and printmakers are inclined to make editions of their work since it is relatively easy to make more than one image from a negative, digital file, or plate. An edition of 20 prints will have only 20 imprints made before the plate is struck, negative destroyed, file deleted etc.
How fast will you ship my order?
All orders will be shipped within 5 business days of receipt.
What if a print gets damaged during shipping?
I pack my prints with extra care to survive the trip to your mail box. If a print arrives damaged, you’ll need to file an insurance claim to get your money back. Since the prints are limited editions, I can’t replace damaged prints. You could, however, place a new order once the insurance claim is paid out.
What if I decide I don’t like the print?
All sales are final, so please make sure you truly want the photograph before placing your order.
